MAPT project:
What : café .
Where : Ringsted, Denmark.
When : 2007.
Like a flower sprouting, the building penetrates the hard surfaces. The building becomes a part of the city floor and naturally adapts to the flow of people using this area every day. It is a very modern building, a peace of unique architecture that gives Ringsted identity.
The building is a living organism that respond to its users. During the day it can change appearance. In the hours with a lot of activity it becomes transparent and allows people to look through the building. At night it transforms, it closes at becomes a sculptural element, where light draws the outline of the building.
This unique transformation is possible due to a mechanical system that is developed by MAPT. The facades are made from copper and gradually changes appearance over a long period of time, and underlines that the building is an organism that responds to time and environment.
The roof of the building is the paving of the city floor. It allows people to freely walk around, and not be obstructed by the building. Also I provide shelter where people can sit and watch life unfold in the city.
