MAPT project:
What : Library and cultural institution.
Where : Helsingør, Denmark.
When : 2007.
The purpose of a library has changed. From being a storage facility for books to a cultural institution that offers many different activities. Also the content itself has changed over the years. For the library to accommodate these changes it is necessary for it to change form, get a new interface, and a brand new concept. And all this will breathe a new type of architecture.
Dokken is a fully interactive library that communicates with its users and makes navigation between massive amounts of information easier. This is possible thanks to the fusion of interactive technology and physical space.
The library uses the 3 existing buildings on the harbour site in Helsingør. A cut is made through the 3 buildings to connect them. The cut is called “Dokken” and is the central room throughout the building. This is where all infrastructures are placed and where the visual and physical connections are possible.
