MAPT project:
What : Hally 6. Research station.
Where : Antarctica.
When : 2005.
Hally 6 is a research station housing BAS on Antarctica. It functions as a microcosm that allows people to explore the brutal landscape. The structure is elevated above the icy surface on giant inflated rubber pillows that makes is possible for the station to move, almost like a caterpillar. This is necessary since the ice is in constant movement.
Inside, every crewmember has his or her personal space. It consists of small optimised units that accommodate individual needs. Also it is possible customise the units digital surfaces to accentuate personal identity in the small microcosm.
The station is very much like a pacemaker. It is a highly sophisticated peace of technology and if it does not work you will die. It is the only thing keeping you alive in the very hostile environment.
